One million kilograms of humanitarian aid for animals in Ukraine

During 9 months of full-scale war, UPAW (Ukrainian Pet Association Worldwide) supported by international partners delivered 1,000 tons, that is 1 million kilograms of humanitarian cargo for animals.

This happened within the framework of the project “Tailed Hostages of War”.

UPAW provides assistance to caregivers of cats and dogs, volunteers, and shelters in territories close to hostilities, temporarily occupied, and liberated by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as in those areas where many animals were evacuated to.

“The Russian aggression has caused a significant humanitarian crisis. Many people and animals need the basic things, most necessary for survival. The four-legged are the most vulnerable victims of this war, especially those who are now homeless. So, we have to take care of them,” says UPAW co-founder Olga Kirilovich.

Most of the humanitarian aid is pet food, as well as veterinary drugs, consumables, etc. In regions where there are many internally displaced persons with their pets, UPAW delivers special backpacks. They include pet food, a bowl, pee pads, and a toy for the furry friend — all important things for the most comfortable traveling and adaptation to life in a new place.

“We are sincerely grateful to everyone who does not stand aside and supports the animals of Ukraine. Together we have already fed more than 110 thousand dogs, cats, and other animals, who became hostages of the war. But we must actively work further because about 158 thousand animals are still waiting for help,” says UPAW co-founder Oksana Koshak.
